George Saunders, whose first novel,  Lincoln in the Bardo, won the 2017 Man Booker Prize, discusses his beautiful new book, A Swim in the Pond in the Rain, a master class in creative writing. In it George writes about 7 nineteenth century Russian short stories, by Chekhov, Tolstoy, Turgenev and Gogol, carefully analysing what makes them so extraordinary.

George talks with Nicole about how these great writers ‘understood writing as a tool for change, for protest, and for greater engagement in the world’, and how writing is all about ‘trying to find the most interesting person within yourself’. A fascinating, intimate discussion with one of the greatest writers working today that will be of great interest to readers and writers alike.
