Australian writer Hannah Bent discusses her tender, beautifully written debut novel, When Things Are Alive They Hum about the powerful love between two adult sisters, Marlowe and Harper, who has Down Syndrome and a serious heart problem. Bent sensitively explores issues around disability, family loyalty, an individual’s right to autonomy – and how far you would go to save someone you loved.
