Jane Harper’s first book, The Dry was an international bestseller and has been made into a movie starring Eric Bana which will be out next year. The Survivors, her fourth thriller, is set in a small seaside town in Tasmania. Shortly after Kieran Elliott returns to his home town a woman’s body washes up on the local beach. Accusations fly and old secrets are uncovered in the quest to discover who is responsible. Jane talked with me about how being a journalist helped to prepare her for a career as a writer of crime thrillers, about guilt and grief, two of the novels main themes – and how she comes up with those brilliant, impossible-to-guess endings.
